Taking a ‘bow-haus’

Posted: Thursday, October 18, 2012 - APDG AWARDS

Last night, the Australian Production Design Guild heralded the design talents of the stage and screen industries at Doltone House in Pyrmont, Sydney.

In a beautiful Bauhaus setting, by production designer Kitty Taube, Australia’s best were celebrated and awarded. Bauhaus inspired seating supplied by Vampt Vintage Furniture adorned the stage; the audience seat cards, broadsheet program both created by designer Paul Matthews, and ambient blue, yellow and red lighting transported us to the era.

Oscar award winner Adam Elliot, was a fitting master of ceremonies, bringing his unique sense of humour and style to the event, keeping the awards presentation moving. Other presenters on the night included Margaret Pomeranz from the ABC’s ‘At the Movies’, Sarah Stollman, Head of Screen Design at AFTRS, Rod Allan, CEO of Docklands Studios Melbourne, and designer of the infamous L.A. Noire game for Rockstar Games, Simon Wood.

Post award celebrations were held in the beautiful Signorelli Gastronomia restaurant next door, hosted by Presenting Partner Docklands Studios Melbourne. The food was sensational, in an intimate yet fulfilling affair.

The highlight of the night was the presentation of the last award, the Cameron Creswell Agency 2012 APDG Award for Outstanding Contribution to Design, awarded to Roger Kirk. An Australian costume designer primarily for stage and film, he has also won the Tony Award for Best Costume Design and the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Costume Design for The King and I and was nominated for 42nd Street.
