The APDG Peter Rabbit special screening at AFTRS

The APDG Peter Rabbit special screening at AFTRS with an Animal Logic “making of” short film with Q & A afterwards on Tuesday 27 March was a successful and insightful industry event.

The event was well attended with lots of children who created the right atmosphere as Peter Rabbit is a film for young children.

Production Designer, Roger Ford, spoke eloquently about the collaborative design process both with the Director, Will Gluck, and the Animal Logic Visual Effects team. APDG Vice President, Julie Lynch, introduced the speakers & convened the Q& A with grace and style.

Will Reichelt, the Visual Effects Supervisor from Animal logic put together a short 20 minute film describing the Lakes District set extensions that were used to enhance the exterior sets that Roger Ford had designed and were then constructed in Centennial Park.

Matt Middleton from Animal Logic spoke about the character design process of Peter Rabbit including the collaboration with Costume Designer, Lizzy Gardiner, to create Peter’s signature blue jacket.

Finally, Animal Logic’s Simon Ashton discussed the traditional 2D animation that was used in the film which was a homage to the delicate and gentle characters so beautifully and originally created by Beatrix Potter. He also spoke about the storyboarding previsualizing process the artists went through.

The presentation and following Q & A was a testament to the creative commitment and professionalism of Roger Ford and the Animal Logic team in the creation of this whimsical story world, grounded in a beautiful landscape and inhabited with delightful and entertaining characters.
